Biodynamic Cranial Sacral Therapy

What is it?

Biodynamic Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle ‘hands-on’ therapy that aims to support the body’s own ability to release tensions, restrictions, imbalances and misalignments. CST treatments can help raise the health integrity of the body and increase vitality in a person’s system.
CST is a relaxing form of treatment which can benefit people of all ages including small children, pregnant women and the elderly. It can be used safely alongside conventional treatments.
CST essentially grew out of the work of an American osteopath, Dr William Sutherland in the early 1900s. Through years of observational study and experimentation he discovered that every cell in the body expresses a subtle rhythmic tidal movement that is fundamental to life. He indicated that these breath like motions (which he termed ‘primary respiration’) are a direct expression of the health of the system, on physical, psychological and emotional levels. Movement provides the primary sense of aliveness.

Symptoms that CST may help:

CST can be used to support a wide range of health conditions. Some examples are:

Allergies, back pain, chronic fatigue, depression, digestive issues, headaches & migraines, insomnia, anxiety, amongst others.

What happens during a CST session?

During a consultation, you will be invited to lie down on a treatment couch, fully clothed and I will make a light, gentle touch to various parts of your body (such as your feet, head, sacrum, back, and so on). Your consent will always be sought prior to any physical contact being made to your body.

Clinical work in CST is largely perceptual; I will be listening to your body through a sensitive awareness of the shapes and patterns that are occurring in the space between my hands, palpating sensations, subtle movements and areas of restriction. Whatever you feel, it is welcomed and received as part of your therapeutic process.

Some people may experience a deep sense of rest or may become aware of sensations in their body, such as heat, or feeling very cold, or sometimes tightness in a certain area, or tingling sensations. Some people are not aware of any sensations or feeling. There is no right or wrong way to experience CST; everybody has their own process, which expresses itself in its own unique way and within its own time frame. I am there to help facilitate the healing process in any way that feels clinically appropriate, holding an intention to resolve imbalances in the system and support your body’s intrinsic capacity for self-repair and integration. Integration is at the heart of well-being and emotional balance.
